Romena: the Parish and the Castle

The proposed itinerary will accompany you in medieval Casentino, among castles and parish churches.

From pratovecchio a hilly road leads to the Romanian castle, an imposing building, a stronghold of the Guidi Counts, which dominates the whole valley from its 600-metre high. On foot or by bus from the castle you can reach the parish church of San Pietro a romena. The building dates back to the twelfth century, several times restructured, from the simple façade and bell tower. The interior architecture, with three aisles, presents monolithic columns of boulders with capitals decorated with sculptures depicting floral elements and human figures, rich in symbols and meanings rich in charm.
