Poppi, the medieval castle of the Guidi Counts, which was built between the middle and the end of the 13th century. Its project is attributed to Lapo di Cambio, with belated interventions (15th century) by a local architect, Jacopo Turriani. Its careful restoration offers nowadays the possibility to admire a local jewel of civil and military architecture, superb witness of the wealth and pomp of the Guidi Counts. Within the castle it is worth seeing the elegant decoration of the family chapel, housing a cycle of frescoes painted by Taddeo Gaddi, one of the most faithful followers of Giotto’s painting style, (first half of the 14th century). The historic town centre, with its main street, Cavour Street, lined with porticoes, the oratory of the Madonna del Morbo, an elegant example of baroque architecture (17th century), the church of  San Fedele (end of the 12th century), is also worth a visit.
